Additional Information

  • Recommended Fabrics
The Staple Shorts are designed for lightweight woven fabrics that feel breathable and easy to wear.

    Best options:
    - Linen (effortless, airy, and perfect for summer)
    - Linen blends (a little less wrinkly, still breathable)
    - Lightweight cotton (like poplin or voile for everyday comfort)

These fabrics keep the shorts relaxed and wearable, while still giving them that clean, elevated look.

    Fabric Feel Guide
If you want them to feel:
    - Light & breezy → linen or voile
    - Everyday & easy → cotton
    - Slightly more structured → linen blends or poplin

    Yardage Requirements (45”–60” wide fabric)
    - XXS–XS: 0.75 yard
    - S–M: 1 yard
    - L–XL: 1.1 yards
    - 2XL–3XL: 1.25 yards
    - 4XL: 1.5 yards

    Pro Tip
This is the kind of pattern where fabric choice completely changes the vibe so don’t be surprised if you end up making more than one pair. ;)

  • The Staple Shorts started with a simple idea: I wanted a pair of shorts I could wear on repeat and make a bunch of to match with my summer tops.

Something reliable, easy to throw on, comfortable enough for everyday, and versatile enough to style a hundred different ways.

At the time, I also kept thinking about beginners.

Because when you’re first getting into garment sewing, there’s this gap between wanting to make your own clothes and actually feeling confident enough to start. I wanted to create a pattern that felt like a safe entry point - something approachable, but still exciting to wear.

So I designed these to be exactly that.

A relaxed fit, clean lines, an elastic waistband - nothing overly complicated, but still polished enough to feel like a finished piece you’d reach for again and again.

And more than that, I wanted them to feel like a foundation.

Something you can wear as-is on a warm day, or use as a base to experiment by adding trims, playing with fabrics, or turning them into something entirely your own.

Because once you realize you can make a piece like this… it opens the door to everything else.
