Pro Tip
If you’re between fabrics, go with the one that feels best against your skin - you’ll want to live in these. Most people end up making more than one pair once they find their favorite fabric! -
The Everyday Pants started on a Thursday evening, daydreaming of warmer weather wearing my dream summer outfits…. and my cat eyeing the thread on my sewing machine, then me, then the thread again.
I wanted that effortless, breezy linen pant you see everywhere in the summer which I shockingly didn’t own yet. You know, something you’d throw on with a tank, a statement necklace, and flip flops and instantly feel put together in.
But every time I found a pair I loved (hi, Reformation), the price tag snapped me right back to reality. Because I didn’t just want one color, I wanted all the colors to bring my summer wardrobe to life!So I thought… I’ll just make them. How hard can it be?
The goal was simple: a relaxed, straight-leg pant with a comfortable elastic waist, something you could wear on repeat without thinking twice. Easy, elevated, everyday.
But the version you see now with the two bows? That part wasn’t planned.
So on this evening, I was sewing these pants with a glass of red wine in hand, feeling very confident in my creative choices… until I went to thread the drawstring and couldn’t find the openings I had just sewn.
They had vanished into another dimension. I mean, they were just here!
So I tried the pants on to investigate…and there they were… sitting proudly on my left hip. Not center front. Not even close.
I just stood there for a second, tilted my head, and laughed out loud.
And then I had a thought: what if I did it on purpose?
So I added a second set on the right hip, made two drawstrings, and tied them into little bows on each side.
A complete accident turned into my favorite detail.
When I shared the story, people loved it and it stuck. Because it felt like what sewing is actually about: experimenting, messing up, and sometimes ending up with something even better than you planned.
So whether you make yours classic and minimal or add your own twist, these pants are meant to feel like yours.
And if anyone ever compliments them, you’ll have a pretty good story to tell.
