Fall Outfit Staples You're Probably Still Missing

Fall outfit and closet staples you’re probably still missing: loafers, sweater vests, sweaters, ribbed knit pants, black boots, chic shoulder bags, white button downs, and trousers.

Please tell me you’re obsessed with fall like I am?! It’s always been my favorite season because it’s beautiful and cozy, duh, but also the outfits!! And seeing what everybody else is wearing too. I get so inspired by all the coats, loafers, blazers, boots, you name it.

One thing I’ve learned over the years with styling fall outfits is the importance of getting all your wardrobe essentials first. While it’s always fun to get a new statement piece for the season, it’s going to be hard to style if you don’t have a strong foundation.

So, here’s the ultimate checklist for fall closet staples! Make sure to make a little check list of what you already own and what you’d like to get so you can see your progress on your closet staples.

Loafers

For the past couple of years, I’ve noticed loafers gain an extraordinary amount of popularity. My friends, loafers are here to stay! I’m a huge fan of the Prada loafers and have a pair myself, but there are tons of other beautiful options as well that will last you year after year.

Sweater Vest

Sweater vests keep coming back, starting as a trend and now turning into a staple. My favorite way to wear them is oversized over a white button down shirt or a turtleneck and trench coat. If you’ve never owned a sweater vest before, opt for neutral colors like white, grey, and black for starters. I always tend to look for textured sweater vests like cable knits because they just add a little bit more visual interest.

Black Boots

I mean, duh, and there’s so many kinds you can choose from depending on your style! I love black boots with a tall, skinny angle and low heel. These are great for everyday and super elongating. I also love taller boots like chelsea boots, riding boots, rain boots, or western boots. Choose your player ;)

White Button Down

It look me so long to buy a white button down, mainly because it’s sort of a boring purchase. But it’s a necessity!! Oh the things you can do with a white button down, and not just in the fall time. Wear this under your sweaters, sweater vests, or over your tops and layer with over shirts, jackets and trench coats.

Cool Sneakers

Because let’s be real, we’re all wearing sneakers more this season because they’re just comfy! And give off that effortless, cool girl vibe.

Black Blazer

An absolute staple. Every fall, and all year round, you’ll always see a black blazer utilized in outfits. My favorite style is boyfriend, boxy, or straight cut style.

Timeless Sweaters

“You have too many sweaters,” said no one ever. Stock up on staple sweaters like neutral solid colored ones such as white, grey, black, and brown. But don’t be afraid of colors too! I also love searching for fun texture to make an everyday outfit pop just a bit more; aim for cable knit or something chunky.

Knit Pants

Over the past two years, I’ve grown an attachment to knit pants which is why I’m adding these to the list. Specifically, ribbed knit pants! They are so chic and elevated, and they’re as comfy as sweat pants to wear at home or to go out. I don’t usually see people wearing these IRL and I wish more people did! They’re totally underrated.

Chic Shoulder Bag

Shoulder bags are an absolute staple, especially because of how amazing they look with sweaters and coats. Aim for a neutral color or rich, fall-toned patterns and colors.

Trousers

Saving the best for last here! Trousers. If you don’t have a pair of high-waisted, wide-leg trousers yet, you need them asap. I’d suggest starting with a black pair because they are the most versatile and timeless. You’ll be surprised how often you grab for them instead of your jeans!
