The Identity Project

Concept:

For my first assignment in my studio art class, we were assigned to do a photography project on our identity. Within that theme, I chose to center my project around vulnerability.

The Goal:

I was really excited to do this project because it's something different than what I usually photograph - it revolved around something meaningful. It revolved around a normally not often talked about feeling that everyone experiences. Vulnerability. And it was my job (and challenge) to portray these feelings through self portraits. I didn't want to have to explain these photos, I wanted them to speak for themselves. I wanted the title to give just enough information for the viewer to construct their own meaning and interpretation in order for them to relate in whatever way they could.

*Update: My project was displayed in the art building on my campus for two months! I can't explain how grateful I am to have been chosen to be put up on display.

Questions to think about:

1. How did you respond to these photographs?

2. What makes you feel vulnerable?
